Columbus’ MAPFRE Stadium will be packed for a U.S. Men’s National Team qualifier yet again.

U.S. Soccer announced that the USMNT’s opening match of the hexagonal phase of World Cup qualifying against Mexico on Nov. 11 is sold out. This is the fifth time that the game has been a sellout since Columbus hosted this fixture.

According to the federation, more than 56,000 tickets were requested for this match, more than twice the capacity of the stadium. All tickets will also be issued on mobile devices, a first for U.S. Soccer.

The U.S. has enjoyed tremendous success in Columbus against Mexico. The Stars and Stripes have won all four games in Ohio, with each match finishing with a 2-0 scoreline.

  1. Fortress Columbus.

We should never leave this stadium no matter how many tickets could be sold elsewhere. Nearly any other US/Mex match that’s played on US soil is heavily tilted in attendance by Mexico supporters. This stadium’s smallness is its advantage.

Make Mexico travel to where its cold and frigid and beat them over and over again. Home field advantage is worth not selling as many tickets.

  2. They’ve announced a sell out – but they still can’t manage to inform those that entered the lottery to sit in the AO section if they have tickets or not. Guess they’re too busy jacking up the parking fees at RFK for tonight’s game.

  3. 56,000 ticket requests!, i think its safe to assume that this will be the last USA vs Mexico WCQ in Crew Stadium.

Cleveland, Cincinnati, Ohio Stadium? somewhere else?

or if its 2-0 once again, does USSF stick with tradition and deal with the crazy demand again in 4 years?

    • I don’t understand why they didn’t change it this year. I know they like the atmosphere at Crew Stadium, but come on, there’s a huge demand!

      • I’d love to see the game at the Horseshoe. Real Madrid and PSG played there this summer. Could the US-Mexico game get 100,000 in Columbus?
