NCAA Tournament Round of 16 Preview: Wake Forest, Clemson, and more

With the No. 1 seed falling out last round, the College Cup is up for grabs.

Of all eight fixtures this weekend, the only heavy favorites are Wake Forest and Clemson. That being said, Wake Forest will not have an easy go of it against the SIUE team that hopes to continue their streak of upsets.

The first matchup of the weekend, featuring Providence and Creighton, is the only one of the round that involves two unseeded teams. Creighton have been dominant at home this year, but Providence is red-hot after their 5-4 win over Maryland.

Elsewhere, Denver faces an uphill battle against the last undefeated team in Washington, and Notre Dame has a shot at revenge against a Louisville side that derailed their early season success.

Here’s a closer look at this weekend’s third round matches:

6 pm, Providence vs. Creighton

7 pm, (11) Washington vs. (6) Denver

2 pm, (9) North Carolina vs. (8) Syracuse

6 pm, (3) Clemson vs. (14) Albany

8 pm, (5) Stanford vs. (12) Virginia

5 pm, (13) Notre Dame vs. (4) Louisville
