Soccer Sunday: Your Running Commentary

One of the sport’s most historic rivalries headlines Sunday’s soccer schedule.

The Derby della Madonnina has lost a bit of its luster in recent years, but clashes between Inter Milan and AC Milan always brings the best out of the two longtime Italian powerhouses. The two Milan clubs collide again on Sunday as AC Milan looks to keep pace near the top of the table while Inter looks to leap out of midtable mediocrity.

English action features just one game, as Chelsea visits Middlesbrough as the Blues look to keep pace in the Premier League title race.

Elsewhere, Mexican action headlines the night schedule, as Toluca takes on Santos Laguna while Puebla faces Pumas.

If you will be watching today’s action, please feel free to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

    • i’ve seen a couple pieces along the same lines (mostly “print” journalism), and i can’t help but think that this idea that “the u.s.-mex game could be a flashpoint of hateful jingoism” was motivated by some kind of perverted wishful thinking–something to sell more headlines.

hopefully it’s just that these people are totally ignorant of the main demographic of u.s. soccer fans (upper-middle-class, educated, center-to-left-leaning). pretty sure the worst “political” incident between the two sets of fans were when some mexico fans were chanting “OSAMA” after 9/11.
