As the LA Galaxy coaching rumors begin to heat up, Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson quickly doused the flames with regard to his head coach.

Paulson reassured that Timbers coach Caleb Porter is staying in Portland for the 2017 season and also claimed that Porter holds the most prestigious coaching job in MLS.

“I am surprised by the question as there is no coaching job in MLS bigger than the Timbers,” Paulson said to The Oregonian/OregonLive. “Caleb is happy here and we are happy with him. He isn’t going anywhere.”

The Galaxy have said that they will request permission to speak to specific coaches in MLS as they try to fill the role.

Porter has been with the Timbers since 2013 and lead the club to the 2015 MLS Cup title.

    • I’m reminded of a philosophy by the football coach, Jimmy Johnson, where he openly admitted to his team the scale of how he treats each player:

“He was in the team meeting room and he was telling us how he treats all his players differently depending on who you are. Most coaches tell you they treat every player the same — and then they treat them differently. Not Jimmy. He told us how he treats us differently based on what we can do for the team and how we can help the Dallas Cowboys win games.”

Realistically, I think this is how most managers/coaches behave at higher levels. I don’t know the circumstances surrounding your situation, but it was just a camp you’d hope for some more patience, unless he deemed you were a burden to the rest of the camp experience.
