With 2016 coming to an end, U.S. Soccer has listed a list of nominees for several year-end awards.

Jozy Altidore, Michael Bradley, Geoff Cameron, Clint Dempsey and Bobby Wood headline the list of nominees as the five were announced as the shortlist for Male Player of the Year. The winner of the award will be announced Dec. 9.

Also to be confirmed Dec. 9 is the winner of Young Male Player of the Year, which includes a nominee field of forwards Andrew Carleton and Jordan Morris, midfielders Josh Sargent and Christian Pulisic and defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.

The female shortlists were also released, as Crystal Dunn, Alex Morgan, Tobin Heath, Carli Lloyd and Becky Sauerbrunn make up the nominees for Female Player of the Year, while Emily Ogle, Andi Sullivan, Kaleigh Riehl, Karina Rodriguez and Ashley Sanchez have been shortlisted for Female Player of the Year.

Who do you see as favorites for each award? Who would you choose?

  1. i’d give it to cameron. if any one player really stood out (positively) it was him. he was solid in the centenario, and it was evident how important he is to our backline when we didn’t have him.

  2. Bradley being included is a joke. Dempsey, Cameron- how much have they even played? I’d given it to Wood out of that group. Where’s Pulisic?

    • He’s in the young player of the year finalists. Not sure if the award includes club play as well, but here are the stats for the finalists plus CP in Nat matches.

      CP 11 matches 3 goals (St.V&G(2) Bolivia)
Jozy 10 matches 6 goals (TnT(2) STVG, Guat, Can, Iceland)
Wood 15 matches 4 goals (Mex, StVG, CR, PR)
Dempsey 10 matches 4 goals (Guat, CR, Para, Ecuador)
      Bradley 17 matches 0 goals
Cameron 10 matches 1 goal (Guat)

Looking at the stats and understanding the back story I would think Dempsey is the favorite. If it includes club play as well he averaged a goal every other game in MLS which would have put him pretty high on the scorers list had he not had to cut his season short. Jozy and Wood have good club stats, Cameron here because he plays in a top league, and Bradley here because he’s the captain.
