It’s been a fantastic start to the season for Lynden Gooch, so an injury setback comes as a major disappointment to the U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder.
After being stretchered off during a Sunderland U-23 match against Tottenham with an ankle injury, Gooch will have to see a specialist for potential ligament damage, Sunderland manager David Moyes stated in his pre-match press conference.
“Looks like Lynden has damaged a ligament in his ankle.” said Moyes. “He is seeing a specialist today and then will have a clearer outcome.”
“But he will probably be out somewhere between eight and 12 weeks, depending on exactly what the surgeon says.”
Gooch has featured consistently for the Sunderland first team this season, earning praise from his peers and the notice of former USMNT manager Jurgen Klinsmann, who gave him his first senior call up.
At least I don’t think an ankle is as bad as a knee and he should be back in time for March qualifiers if we need him.
One report says he will be out 2-3 months.

That’s 2-3 months, Big Ben.
Old School – give Big Ben a break. It’s difficult to convert weeks into months.
As required with an ankle injury.
