Agent: Giovinco happy to remain in MLS, not interested in Serie A return

Sebastian Giovinco has been one of the best players in MLS for the past two seasons and, according to his agent, it doesn’t appear that will be changing any time soon.

According to Sport Italia, Giovinco’s agent, Andrea D’Amico said the former Italian international will not be returning to Serie A. The Toronto FC striker had seventeen goals and five assists in 2016 and barely missed out on a championship as the Canadian club lost in penalty kicks to the Seattle Sounders in the MLS Cup final

“Giovinco’s not coming back to Italy,” D’Amico said. “He’s found a setting where he is enjoying huge satisfaction both on and off the field, including getting to within touching distance of the title.

“Football in the USA is growing rapidly and this growth of the whole movement there can be seen in the number of spectators flocking to the stadiums.”

In 2015, Giovinco was the top scorer in Major League Soccer while also notching the most assists en route to being named MLS MVP following an outstanding season. His 2016 was also exceptional but it was not good enough to be considered for selection for the Italian National Team for Euro 2016.The national team snubs had many speculating that Giovinco would be bound for Europe, but according to his agent, he does not intend to leave anytime soon.

Good for him- he’s been a great ambassador for MLS growth. Let’s hope the Italian NT pulls its collective head out of its arse and ensures that the title ‘former Italian international’ does not stick.

Why would anybody want to go to Serie A when they can stay in the mls and win important things such as the mls supporters cup?

Quite sadly and rather fortunately, Serie A ain’t what it used to be and…. neither is MLS. Times and things change, what once was true may not be today. Always pays for an individual to make decisions from from where one stands- in regards to present day facts AND very importantly, personal needs.

The illegal SES of the MLS is producing exactly what it was intended to do…profits for owner/investors(o/I)….nothing less, nothing more…paying second class players like him and over the hill players has grown the business in a market that is ignorant and desperate for a brand of football that would tank in any other zone..with no competition, and o/i profits guaranteed..MLS over all is losing money every year. MLS is now dependent on expansion fees to fuel higher profit margins for its o/I…and future investment…the bubble will burst once they hit 32 clubs..by that time either the quality or revenues , or both will be the demise f the MLS…so get it while the getting is good Gio…

sarcasm noted and brushed aside. The biggest question is why would he want to go back to Serie A when he is enjoying himself in MLS and making 2-3 times more than he would there?

      Rob and I agree!

It really does say all you need to know about Serie A. Are you playing for The Old Lady? No…ok move on, you are wasting your time. Exaggeration, sure, but not much of one.

MLS has way more to offer, not even close. The whiners don’t want to admit it and will try, unsuccessfully, to make fun of it. But it’s true.

while a decline, Serie A and MLS are pretty much equal on average attendance. Serie A is averaging 21,400, MLS is averaging 21,600. Saying that, the numbers are comparing to MLS full season of 2016 and Serie A is 2016/2017 season, so numbers can certainly change.

Would it be wise of Gio’s agent to throw a subtle jab at a league he’s likely to have/get more clients? I suspect it was nothing more than a pat on the shoulder to the league the player in question is currently playing in.

Why not!!..easy decision to continue to play in the crap overhyped MLS for a club that pays him an absurd salary, far more than he would be paid in Europe as he is just another player over there!!!..Sure it means his days with Italia’s MNT are over as the quality of MLS are laughable in comparison to any div 1 or 2 European based players, or anywhere else for that matter, but in the end it is all about the cash regardless of committing to playing in the slimey irrelevant backwaters of world football aka the MLS..

Why is it an absurd salary? Based on what? The KY index? Toronto is trying to win an championship, he put them in a great position to do so. They almost did, money well spent. Mock Toronto when they weren’t trying to win, like most of the Serie A.

This isn’t some joke of a league. Teams are trying to win. Gio wants to win. Reason to respect and love him, not mock him. Mock the guy sitting at a 7th place Serie A team, doesn’t care about winning, doesn’t want to risk anything to try to win, just comfortable in his little secure spot.

I love when the whiners come out and type from mom’s basement, it really shows you that MLS is right where they want to be, by them typing the opposite.

We got the MLS is going bankrupt prediction that has held to be true so many times in the past.
We got the MLS mocking and the claims about being an unsuccessful worthless league, while whining about all the things that have made it so successful, responding to a story that show it has succeeded.

5 teams in Serie A didn’t average 15k/game last year. The average may be the same, but like the standings it is mostly at the top and much more widely dispersed. MLS is much better option and a logical choice for Giovinco.

what’s the point of guys like rob and kahkakew yawassanay that constantly put down mls?!? I know live in s. america and futbol/soccer here is on another level compared to the states and not because it’s overall better technically or have huge stars but it’s because it’s the life blood of society. So no one here is dumb enough to compare the local league with the PL, La Liga or whichever other top 5 league. Although they’d kill to have giovinco play here!. It’s obvious that only a handful of teams around the world can be talked about in the same sentence, so why even bother??
Growing up in the states I followed first the fusion cause i lived in miami and later the quakes as I lived in n. cal and obviously I never mistaken those teams with any european ones. If you don’t like the league, or the way it’s being run, it’s simple, shut up and don’t watch.

Rob is a fat, uneducated slob that lives in his mothers basement. He has nothing better to do than troll. Sadly, some people are just losers.
