Bill Hamid has waited several years for his chance with the U.S. Men’s National Team, but now the D.C. United goalkeeper will have to wait a little longer.

U.S. Soccer announced on Tuesday that Hamid has withdrawn from January camp for the second straight year due to a knee issue. No replacement has been named, as the USMNT enters camp with David Bingham, Stefan Frei, Nick Rimando and Luis Robles on the roster.

Hamid’s injury comes at an inopportune time, as it appeared the D.C. United goalkeeper was set to begin his case for more playing time on the international level. With Tim Howard injured and Brad Guzan continuing to push on with Middlesbrough, the January camp would have been a good proving ground for Hamid, who now misses a chance to impress new manager Bruce Arena.

The goalkeeper, who has two career caps, aggravated a similar knee injury last January, one that caused him to miss the first three months of the MLS season.

  1. Sad to see it happen but this might be the time to just move on and call up more reliable choices from now on.
