It looks like the San Jose Earthquakes won’t be signing Darwin Quintero.

According to ESPN, the Earthquakes have ended their pursuit of Quintero from Club America. If San Jose was serious about acquiring the Colombian forward, the Quakes would have spent around $5 million for a transfer fee and annual wages of $2.5 million.

However, San Jose is making progress towards signing forwards Marco Urena and Danny Hoesen as well as midfielder Jahmir Hyka, who have all been linked to the Bay Area recently.

Hyka, 28, is attracting interest from Turkey, which has led to FC Luzern wanting a transfer fee in order for him to move to MLS. However, Hoesen and Urena are closer to deals with the Earthquakes.

Mix Diskerud left off NYCFC’s preseason roster

Mix Diskerud’s career at New York City FC is looking more doom and gloom. The U.S. international was left off NYCFC’s 28-man preseason roster, as was goalkeeper Josh Saunders.

NYCFC’s director of soccer operations Claudio Reyna told Big Apple Soccer that the club is looking for a solution for the players who were omitted from the roster, which could spell the end of both Diskerud and Saunders in New York City.

Diskerud made just 12 appearances in 2016, while Saunders played in all but two regular-season games since joining NYCFC.

Red Bulls sign academy product Dan Metzger

The competition for places in the New York Red Bulls’ midfield just increased.

The Red Bulls announced the signing of academy product Dan Metzger on Monday. Metzger, 23, has played in 40 games with New York Red Bulls II in the USL over two seasons.

Metzger has also represented the U.S. Under-23 Men’s National Team at the 2015 Toulon Tournament. He will be fighting for a starting spot with the likes of Felipe, Sean Davis and Tyler Adams in 2017.

The Red Bulls also announced the homegrown signing of Evan Louro, a goalkeeper who spent his last three seasons at the University of Michigan. Louro recorded 12 shutouts in 46 appearances for the Wolverines.

Minnesota United announces signings of Kallman, Ibson

Minnesota United added two more players to its MLS roster ahead of its inaugural season.

The club announced that it signed Minnesotan Brent Kallman, who has been a stalwart in Minnesota’s defense. The 26-year-old played in 30 games for United last season in the NASL.

Minnesota also retained veteran midfielder Ibson, who will play for the team in 2017. The Brazilian has played for the likes of Flamengo and FC Porto, who he represented in the UEFA Champions League.

  1. Before the beginning of last season people here threw a huge fit when I said the only ones that thought Mix was any good were his father, his barber and Klinsmann.
    Look at him now.
