Following yet another injury, Bill Hamid recently left U.S. Men’s National Team camp, and it appears the D.C. United goalkeeper’s recent ailment will force him to miss a chunk of preseason on the club level.

Hamid had knee surgery on Monday and will end up missing most of D.C. United’s training camp. This is the second consecutive offseason that the United goalkeeper has undergone surgery on his right knee. According to Washington Post, the standout goalkeeper will be ready to play in about six weeks. Last season, Hamid had a similar surgery and did not make his debut until late May.

Hamid withdrew from U.S. camp after it became apparent that his right meniscus was bothering him. Instead of going back to Washington, the goalkeeper stayed in Los Angeles and got the injury checked out by U.S team doctors.

D.C. United opens camp on Monday and does not begin their regular season until March 4th, when they host Sporting Kansas City at RFK Stadium. They plan on playing about six preseason friendlies, which Hamid will most likely miss.

D.C. United released Andrew Dykstra this offseason, so it looks like Travis Worra will be the replacement for Hamid at least for the beginning of the preseason.  Worra is entering his third season as a professional and will look to make an impact early on in the season. Other options at goalkeeper include newly drafter rookie Eric Klenofsky and Charlie Horton.
