Report: Johnson making progress toward Gladbach return

There’s good news on the injury front for one of the top players in the U.S. Men’s National Team talent pool. Borussia Monchengladbach winger Fabian Johnson appears ready to challenge for a spot in the matchday squad once again after dealing with an Achilles injury.

“The injury has been healed,” says Johnson. “I’m on a good path, but not quite there yet.”

Johnson missed most of his club’s December matches in the Bundesliga due to the injury, but he received plenty of time to heal over the holidays due to the winter break in Germany. The American might not be ready to start against Darmstadt on Saturday, but there’s a chance he could play a role off the bench if everything goes well.

Johnson has made 18 appearances this season for the Foals, five of which came in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League. When European play resumes, Gladbach will face Fiorentina in the UEFA Europa League round of 32.
