Soccer Wednesday: Your Running Commentary

Cup action takes center stage on Wednesday with England and Spain highlighting the day’s slate of games.

The EFL Cup resumes as Liverpool and Southampton play the second leg of their semifinal at Anfield. Saints hold a 1-0 lead on aggregate after their win on Jan. 11. The winner of the semi will face either Hull City or Manchester United in the final.

Two more teams will qualify for the semifinals in the Copa del Rey. Atletico Madrid has a convincing 3-0 lead on aggregate over Eibar heading into the second leg. City rival Real Madrid is in a hole in its quarterfinal as Celta Vigo leads 2-1 after stunning Real at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The group stage of the African Cup of Nations finishes on Wednesday with three teams still alive in Group D. Ghana and Egypt face off, with a draw being enough to send them both into the quarterfinals.

Elsewhere, Juventus faces AC Milan in the Coppa Italia, Monaco takes on Nancy in the Coupe de la Ligue, and Copa MX continues in Mexico.
