Terrence Boyd excited to work with Torsten Frings at Darmstadt

Terrence Boyd needed a fresh start. He was given a tremendous opportunity after signing with Darmstadt on Tuesday to play under one of his childhood idols, Torsten Frings.

The Bremen-born U.S. international watched Frings play for Werder Bremen, Boyd’s local club growing up. Now the 25-year-old has a chance to work with the former midfielder.

“Torsten Frings called me. As a Bremen-born this was a small honour,” Boyd told Kicker. “When I was a kid, I saw him play at the Weserstadion.”

Ravaged by injuries over the last couple of years at RB Leipzig, Boyd is looking to revive his career. He believes that moving to Darmstadt will give him the best chance to rekindle his form.

“I want to join the fight. And I also want to play in the Bundesliga again,” said Boyd. “I am delighted that I will get a fair chance to play upfront in attack. That wasn’t the case previously, also because of my injuries.”

“It is important that you have a team where you feel comfortable and have the chance to play, then you’re okay.”

The striker has made just nine club appearances since 2015. Boyd and Darmstadt are currently seven points adrift of safety, but are only four points away from the relegation playoff spot.

Anyone who takes it out of context isn’t worth the effort to sugarcoat something the majority of adults understand.
