The U.S. Men’s National Team will be returning to the Bay Area for World Cup qualifying for the first time since 1997.
U.S. Soccer announced that San Jose’s Avaya Stadium will be the host venue for the USMNT’s pivotal World Cup qualifier against Honduras on March 24.
The Bay Area has not hosted a qualifier since the USMNT beat Canada, 3-0, in the final round of 1998 World Cup qualifying at Stanford Stadium.
The USMNT lost its first two qualifiers against Mexico and Costa Rica in November, which leaves the team in a deep hole. The USA hadn’t started the Hexagonal phase with two straight losses until this cycle.
This March qualifier will be Bruce Arena’s first competitive game since his return as USMNT head coach.
