Following several weeks of reports and rumors, Gedion Zelalem is officially bound for the Netherlands.

VVV Venlo confirmed on Tuesday that the club has sealed a deal with Arsenal that will keep Zelalem with the club through the end of the season. The second division club is currently top of the table and pushing for promotion to the Eredivisie.

“Initially we asked for advice from our partner club West Ham United, but they could not give us this type of player,” said manager Stan Valckx. “We are always seeking out chances and one occurred with this unique opportunity, which we welcome. We have seized it with both hands. Given the number of games that we play and depth of our team, Gedion is a welcome addition.”

“We are delighted that Arsenal offers us a player with this potential,” added CEO Marco Bogers. ” Through our partner club West Ham United, we have been informed about the discussions on this loan are fine.  The paperwork, regarding an international loan, took more time…. Fortunately, today everything came around and Gedion, from now, can play for our club.”

Zelalem featured for Scottish club Rangers on loan through the 2015-16 season, making 28 appearances for the club. Following his return to Arsenal, Zelalam struggled for gametime, making just two substitute appearances before finalizing his loan move.

The midfielder had been linked to permanent moves away from Arsenal, including one to Borussia Dortmund, but reportedly signed a new deal with Arsenal prior to joining VVV Venlo.

  1. I know people don’t like this move but he will get first team mins and if he improves his goal scoring(which is the only real weakness in his game) this should have the way for a move in the summer. This might also light a fire under him to really show his qualities. Let’s not knock the move, this might be just what he needs.
