Americans Abroad Friday Rewind: Corona, Zelalem, Hyndman and more

Tijuana continued their hot start to the Liga MX campaign as several Americans guided the club to yet another win.

Michael Orozco and Joe Corona earned starts for Xolos on Friday as the club topped Edgar Castillo and Monterrey, 2-0. U.S. Men’s National Team winger Paul Arriola also made an appearance, joining the fray in the 66th minute ad Tijuana moved back on top of the Liga MX table for the time being.

In the Netherlands, Gedion Zelalem and VVV Venlo also remain atop the table following a win on Friday. Zelalem made a substitute appearance as the second-division club opened up an eight-point lead atop the Eerste Divisie.

Elsewhere, Emerson Hyndman couldn’t help Rangers get past Inverness, while Andrew Wooten also settled for a loss in 2. Bundesliga play.

Aron Johannsson dressed but did not play in Werder Bremen’s 2-1 win over Wolfsburg.

Andrew Wooten started and played 90 minutes in Sandhausen’s 1-0 loss to Eintracht Braunschweig.

MEXICO

Michael Orozco started and played 90 minutes in Tijuana’s 2-0 win over Monterrey.

Joe Corona started and played 90 minutes for Tijuana.

Paul Arriola entered as a 66th minute substitute for Tijuana.

Amando Moreno, Alejandro Guido and John Requejo did not dress for Tijuana.

Edgar Castillo started and played 58 minutes for Monterrey.

SCOTLAND

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE

Emerson Hyndman started and played 90 minutes in Rangers’ 2-1 loss to Inverness.

Ethan Horvath dressed but did not play in Club Brugge’s 5-0 win over Zulte-Waregem.

Shane O’Neill did not dress in NAC Breda’s 1-0 win over FC Volendam.

Gedion Zelalem entered as a 56th minute substitute in VVV Venlo’s 4-0 win over Achilles ’29.

    • Mario Rodriguez also started for Sonnenhof, its the US U23 international’s 5th straight start after transferring from Chemnitzer to Dresden and then being loaned to Sonnenhof in January.
