Two up-and-coming U.S. Men’s National Team wingers are set to collide on Monday in the 2. Bundesliga.

Julian Green appears to be finally bound for regular minutes on the field following his winter transfer to Stuttgart, a club that currently sits within one point of an outright lead atop the 2. Bundesliga table. The former Bayern Munich winger’s next challenge comes in the form of Jerome Kiesewetter and Fortuna Dusseldorf on Monday afternoon.

Green made his Stuttgart debut on Jan. 29, playing 45 minutes in a 1-0 win over St. Pauli. The 21-year-old scored in a friendly against Stuttgart Kickers last Thursday before officially being named to Stuttgart’s matchday squad for Monday’s game.

As for Kiesewetter, a summer move to Fortuna Dusseldorf has produced 10 total appearances, three of which were starts. However, the American winger hasn’t played since November, only recently returning to the bench for last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Sandhausen. Now set to face his former club, Kiesewetter has reportedly been training as a defender in recent weeks as he seeks his breakthrough with his new team.

In addition, Gedion Zelalem will also push to see the field on Monday after making his debut with VV Venlo over the weekend. The Dutch club takes on Jong PSV on Monday as they look to continue their push towards promotion.

What do you expect from Monday’s match? How will Green and Kiesewetter fare?

  1. Y’all really delete my comment about GZ playing today, and make edits to the article to include him. I want credit. I also want GZ and Jerome to actually start a game.

    • Armed with google translate and no knowledge of German I have discovered that Keisewetter has been moved to lawyer. It seems his club hasn’t been happy with his urgency and/or “hustle and bustle” so he is being tried at fullback.
