Americans Abroad Saturday Rewind: Brooks, Chandler, Gonzalez and more

brooks

A pair of U.S. Men’s National Team defenders went head-to-head on Saturday, and it was John Brooks that came out on top.

Brooks started and played all 90 minutes in Saturday’s clash with Timmy Chandler’s Eintracht Frankfurt, maintaining a clean sheet on a 2-0 victory. Brooks and Christian Pulisic were the lone Americans to earn victories in Bundesliga play, as the young winger joined as a late substitute as Borussia Dortmund cruised past Freiburg.

Others, like Bobby Wood and Hamburg, weren’t so lucky. Fortunately for himself, Wood remained on the bench on Saturday as Bayern Munich ran up the score in an 8-0 win over Hamburg. Terrence Boyd’s Darmstadt also fell to defeat, further complicating their push back from relegation.

In Mexico, Omar Gonzalez helped lead Pachuca to a clean sheet while Jonathan Bornstein went the distance in a Queretaro win.

Elsewhere, DeAndre Yedlin helped Newcastle United earn a draw, Danny Williams’ Reading fell to a contender and Lynden Gooch was named to the bench for the first time in nearly a month.

  1. According to the match report, Yedlin cleared a ball off the line with Newcastle already down 0-1. A little more effort in these summaries would be nice.

    • There were 23 players whose teams played on Saturday, just going through to see who scored or assisted and how many guys played takes a good deal of time

    • Yeah I don’t think a player clearing a goal scoring opportunity with a header needs to be mentioned in a review of the weekend, assists, goals and minutes played/not played will suffice.
