Americans Abroad Sunday Rewind: Johnson, Ream, Arriola and more

Several Americans endured tough results to close the weekend’s action abroad.

Fabian Johnson continued his return to the Borussia Monchengladbach after several months away, but the U.S. Men’s National Team regular couldn’t quite make an impact in the team’s 2-1 loss to RB Leipzig. Johnson was removed in the 80th minute, just moments before Mochengladbach scored their first goal of the game, one which proved to be a consolation against a soaring RB Leipzig side.

Tim Ream and Fulham were overwhelmed by a superior opponent as well. Thanks to a Harry Kane hat-trick, Tottenham cruised past Fulham, 3-0, in a match that saw Cameron Carter-Vickers named to the Spurs bench.

Paul Arriola and Tijuana were able to earn a draw to continued their hot start in Liga MX, but the American winger conceded a penalty kick as his side shared points. Elsewhere, Desevio Payne helped earn a 2-2 draw as he continued to play a vital role for FC Groningen while Matt Miazga and Vitesse fell in a narrow 1-0 loss to Ajax.

Comments

  1. Happy to see that a number of our young players got good minutes over the weekend. Arriola, Payne, Miazga & Hyndman all going 90 was good to see. The other thing I’m glad to see was Fabian starting and getting close to full fitness.
Hopefully they’ll keep it up and make it hard on Bruce to select 23 for the qualifiers.
