Americans Abroad Tuesday Rewind: Gonzalez, Williams, Moreno and more

omargonzalez-1

Omar Gonzalez may have seen a goal of his own wiped away, but it was his performance on the other side of the ball that helped Pachuca earn an impressive result on Tuesday night.

Gonzalez was a standout in defense on Tuesday as Pachuca earned a 0-0 draw against Saprissa in Costa Rica. While his defensive efforts went a long way towards preserving the clean sheet, Gonzalez also nearly contributed on the attacking end as a 34th minute finish was ruled back on an offside call. The result gives Pachuca a leg up heading into their second leg clash, which will take place back home in Mexico on Feb. 28.

In England, Danny Williams and Reading faced off with David Wagner’s Huddersfield Town in a clash that could prove vital to the English League Championship promotion battle, and it was the latter that came out on top via a 1-0 scoreline. The win pushes Huddersfield into third place, four points ahead of Reading, who have also played an extra game.

Elsewhere, Amando Moreno and Joe Corona featured for Tijuana in a narrow Copa MX win over Correcaminos.

  1. I don’t think huddersfield or Reading get Auto promotion this season. Brighton and Newcastle look too strong and have a pretty good lead. You never know though. I’m hoping Reading can pull it off in playoffs (we haven’t had the best of luck with playoffs). Come on URZ!!
