The DFB-Pokal continues on Wednesday as several Americans look to join Bobby Wood and Fabian Johnson in the quarterfinals of the German cup competition.

Either Christian Pulisic or John Brooks will seal their spot on Wednesday as the two go head-to-head when Borussia Dortmund takes on Hertha Berlin. Pulisic has yet to appear on the DFB-Pokal this season while Brooks has lifted Hertha Berlin in each of his two cup starts.

Andrew Wooten faces the toughest test of the day 2. Bundesliga side Sandhausen takes on Schalke. Luckily for Sandhausen, Wooten has been in solid form, scoring seven goals across the last 10 games, bringing his total to 10 on the season.

Finally, Timmy Chandler and Eintracht Frankfurt also take the field for a Round of 16 clash with Hannover. Frankfurt enters the match having won three out of their last four with the loan defeat coming to title defenders RB Leipzig.

Here’s a full look at Wednesday’s Americans Abroad:

Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund take on John Brooks and Hertha Berlin.

  1. Pulisic was as cool as a cucumber for the assist. Took his time in the penalty area after a shot hit the post and was then passed to him.

  2. Dortmund through on PKs. Pulisic missed his (weakly taken, low, saved). Overall a decent match for him had the assist and was generally a positive influence.

  3. Pulisic on the bench. Same lineupe from the RBL match. Not exactly sure what Durm has done to warrant inclusion. Guerriero is now a midfielder, I guess.

Starting to wish our boy had gone somewhere else in the window. I was happy he stayed because at that time he was getting regular starts. Now he can’t get a cup start days after being used as a sub and looking better than the players around him, not sure if that bodes well for him when the CL matches come around.

    • Hitting the panic button a little early with a knee jerk reaction? Every time CP goes 2-3 games without starting folks get themselves worked up. Dortmund is the best place for him develop. The club produces a lot of great attacking players plus he also has a support system at the club with his father coaching one of the youth teams.

Dortmund is still in three competitions and the club rotates its squad. There will be plenty of minutes to go around.

    • It might be time to start giving Wooten more love, he’s surely one of the hotter US Strikers playing abroad! I can see him getting a run out with the Gold Cup team this summer, especially if he keeps this form up!
