In preparation for the upcoming CONCACAF U-17 Championships, head coach John Hackworth has named his 26-man roster for a pair of upcoming friendlies.

The roster features a heavy dose of players currently on MLS academy rosters, with 15 of the 26 currently featuring in MLS teams’ youth systems. The remainder of the roster is composed of players from private academies, as well as one unattached player, Foe Nuphaus of San Jose, CA, and one player from Atletico Madrid’s youth set-up in Spain, Nicolas Garcia-Morillo.

Sporting Kansas City has two prospects in the group with Jaylin Lindsey and Grayson Barber, matched by Atlanta United with Carlos Asensio and Christopher Goslin, and New York City FC with brothers James and William Sands. The Portland Timbers, New York Red Bulls, Philadelphia Union, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, D.C United, Toronto FC, and FC Dallas all contribute one player each.

The friendlies on February 27th and March 2nd against the Honduras U-17 team will be the team’s first competitive contests since they swept Brazil, Portugal, and Turkey’s youth teams to win the Nike International Friendlies in December. The team will travel to Panama from April 21st to May 7th for the U-17 Championships, where they’ve been matched with Mexico, Jamaica, and El Salvador.

  1. What about Jean-Julien Foe Nuphaus? Previously he was listed as a member of “SJ Earthquakes Academy” and now is “Unattached”. What happened in San Jose?

    • Born in Miami, dual national with US and Spain, I believe he still lists Florida as his home. He has been with the US since at least U14s. Plays for Atletico’s U19 Bs, been with Atletico since 2015. Plenty of youtube video many posted by Lorena Garcia-Morillo, who I’m guessing is his mom.
