PRO has made a major hire ahead of the 2017 MLS season.

The refereeing organization has officially hired former Premier League and FIFA referee Howard Webb to “oversee the development and education, assessment, and assignment of Video Assistant Referees (VARs)” for PRO.

In-game tests for video replays will occur in 30 preseason matches and in the second half of the regular season, which Webb will assess.

The Englishman refereed for 25 years in the Premier League, Champions League, European Championships and World Cups. Webb retired in 2014 and has since been a TV analyst for BT Sport in England.
