U.S. U-20s vs. Haiti: Your Running Commentary

u-20

After dropping their opening game of World Cup qualifying, the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team is in need of a bounce-back performance on Tuesday night.

The U.S. takes on Haiti on Tuesday in a match that serves as a virtual must-win for the American squad. Haiti enters fresh off a 5-1 shellacking of St. Kitts & Neves, while the the U.S. group’s loss to Panama served as a major setback to start the CONCACAF tournament.

There’s still plenty of wiggle room, as the top two teams leave the group, but points will be a necessity on Tuesday. With Tyler Adams out, Eryk Williamson and Jonathan Lewis join the U.S. lineup while Real Salt Lake’s Sebastian Saucedo moves to the bench.

  1. Tab is being extremely stubborn with his midfield choices. EPB is a solid defender, but not a particularly good d-mid, and De La Torre looks totally confused at what his role is. This feels like the last stand of Jurgen’s ideals.

    • Thought EPB did well in the midfield last game. Ramos sort of forced into it because of the wealth of centerbacks. Between Glad, EPB and Redding, three of the group’s top players all play the same position. Have to get them on the field somehow, and three-at-the-back is a major risk at this level. Do agree that there needs to be more from this midfield, though. Not good enough so far.

  2. Up and down half, and the U.S. escapes the first half with the score tied at one apiece. Think Lennon has looked fairly good and think the group as a whole tightened up after allowing the goal. Haiti’s goalkeeper has kept it interesting by darting out several times.

What have you seen so far? What do you expect from the second half?

  3. ROUGH start for the U.S. as they concede an ugly goal early, but they bounce back on a penalty kick from Lennon. Still haven’t quite seen that attacking spark that you’d hope to see, but they’ve definitely looked better since conceding. Next few minutes should be vital.

  4. Don’t have UDN but looks like we’re on our way to another garbage result. I like Tab but he has to go. Results aren’t the only thing that matters at this level but they do matter and failing to get out of a group this easy isn’t good enough.

  5. Don’t know the right back’s name but I’m done with him. Has not looked impressive at all and was clearly ball watching on that goal.
