Wood ‘looking good’ to return for Bayern Munich clash

Bobby Wood was forced out of last week’s match due to a pregame injury, leaving his status in doubt heading into Saturday’s match with Bayern Munich. That doubt is all but gone, as it appears the Hamburg forward should be ready to take the field for the clash with the German champions.

Wood trained away from the team on Tuesday and Wednesday as he nursed a thigh injury, but Hamburg boss Markus Gisdol said on Thursday that Wood is ‘looking good’ ahead of Saturday’s match. Hamburg currently sits 15th in the Bundesliga table, just one point out of the relegation playoff.

“It gets better all the time. I am pain free, Wood said following Wednesday’s training session. “Munich was my first stop here in Germany. It is a place I have special memories of.”

The forward’s status was left up in the air following this past weekend’s match, a 2-2 draw with Freiburg. Wood was injured in pregame warmups, prompting Gisdol to remove the forward to avoid a more serious injury.

Wood has scored seven total goals for Hamburg this season.
