Hyndman continues strong run of form with another goal for Rangers

Emerson Hyndman’s success at Rangers continued on Saturday with another goal.

The midfielder opened the scoring for Pedro Caixinha’s side in the Scottish club’s 4-0 league victory over Hamilton Academic in league action. The finish was Hyndman’s fourth league goal of the season Rangers, and his second in his last three matches for the club.

Hyndman pushed Rangers ahead in the 26th minute on Saturday, finishing off James Tavernier’s assist. Clint Hill, Martyn Waghorn, and Lee Wallace all added goals, but it was Hyndman’s goal which started the rout at the Ibrox Stadium.

After joining Rangers from Bournemouth on-loan in January, the 20-year-old has found a nice run of form, as he tries to help the Glasgow side earn a European spot for next season. The midfielder also hopes to be in the future plans of Bruce Arena and the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Here’s a closer look at Hyndman’s goal.

  1. Everybody needs to calm down. We’ve seen Americans succeed at Rangers before, Maruice Edu anyone? But underwhelm at bigger leagues and on NT stage. Let’s wait until he’s starting at Bournemouth to get excited.

    • Other than that one huge goal for Rangers against Celtic I don’t remember Edu doing too much. Now Edu just can’t stay healthy for Philadelphia. But you’re right, we will see if Bournemouth actually use him next season or they send him to Rangers fully or somewhere else.

    • He really is making a difference at Rangers too. They only have Europa League spot to go after now after some poor results in February and Celtic’s dominant lead at the top, but Hyndman has helped them pick up some big points.

    • Are you talking about Pulisic? Hyndman is looking excellent in his own right and I’m excited for his future. BTW MB scored 20 goals for Heereveen in his first full season and he was younger then than Hyndman is now. Credit where credit is due.

      • Thanks for mentioning that. People get carried away too easily. Outside of Celtic and Rangers, the SPL isn’t that good, probably not as good as MLS, so we shouldn’t over value his ability at this time.

      • Move on?

The youngsters need to earn it like everyone else does. They need to make their case when theyre getting national team minutes just like Pulisic, Zimmerman and Acosta have done.

The idea that you just shuffle players out because they are veterans just is not a wise or smart way to go about managing a successful team.

      • I’m not saying we should shuffle Bradley out just because he’s a veteran. I’m saying we should stop guaranteeing him a starting spot, because he’s played poorly for the past 3 years. Giving other players a fair chance means reducing Bradley’s minutes and letting others play, so we can see how they perform.

It’s not like Bradley has been setting the world on fire. He’s been our weak link in big games since 2014.

      • I easily agree with that. I like Hyndman a lot. Also because I watch a lot of the SPFL so I get to see him on a weekly basis. I wonder if he actually sticks with Rangers next season or goes back to Bournemouth and fights for a starting spot.

    • We have a plethora of midfielders, many of them pretty good. Will they be on the team in the future? Most probably. Will they be the starters? Remains to be seen. We still haven’t seen them ;in international play in games that count, which is the true test.

      • I’m not sure I’d say we have a plethora of midfielders, especially central midfielders. We have a few young prospects, but to your point: prospects need to prove themselves by performing on the field. Hyndman and Acosta are doing that now. The next step is to give them a chance to show what they can do at the international level.

Meanwhile Zelalem is not breaking through for his club, and Gooch has been on the bubble. I expect we’ll see 3 or 4 of these guys on the Gold Cup roster.

I just checked the 2013 roster to see how many of those “B team” players made it to the World Cup the next year: Rimando, Beasley, Diskerud, Beckerman, Wondolowski, Bedoya, Gonzalez, Besler.
