MLS Weekend Rewind: Week 2

Week two of the 2017 MLS season is now in the books, as one expansion team clearly established their superiority over their cross-conference counterpart with a serious beat-down.

The Chicago Fire scored two quick strikes, courtesy of Nemanja Nikolic and Arturo Alvarez and never looked back en route to a 2-0 victory over Real Salt Lake. (READ)

Tim Howard was stellar for the Colorado Rapids, but couldn’t stop the New York Red Bulls from seizing their second straight victory, 1-0, to begin the season. (READ)

The Philadelphia Union and Toronto FC played an exciting, goal-filled 2-2 draw with a late goal from C.J. Sapong saving the day for the Union. (READ)

The Seattle Sounders salvaged a draw as Will Bruin scored an equalizer on the last kick of the match, leaving the Montreal Impact splitting points at home, 2-2. (READ)

The Houston Dynamo continued their surprisingly hot start, as Romell Quioto scored in the second minute en route to a 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew. (READ)

Despite resting several starters ahead of mid-week CONCACAF Champions League play, FC Dallas frustrated Sporting Kansas City en route to a point in a 0-0 draw. (READ)

The Vancouver Whitecaps held a 2-0 lead when goalkeeper David Ousted was sent off with a straight red card, allowing the San Jose Earthquakes to battle all the way back for a 3-2 victory. (READ)

New York City FC bounced back from a week one loss with a viscous victory over D.C. United, tallying a 4-0 victory led by a David Villa brace. (READ)

One expansion team earned their first win, while the other sank to new lows, as Atlanta United dominated Minnesota United en route to a comprehensive 6-1 victory. (READ)

An early Diego Chara goal proved enough for the Portland Timbers, who earned their first win on the road since mid-2015 over the 10-man LA Galaxy. (READ)

Good news for Toronto FC, as star forward Sebastian Giovinco was deemed to be ‘okay’ by coach Greg Vanney after being forced to exit early against the Union. (READ)

Despite a 1-0 loss, Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Tim Howard impressed in his return from injury, paving the way for his U.S. Men’s National Team return later in March. (READ)
