Pulisic scores again to lead Borussia Dortmund to DFB-Pokal win

Another day, another goal for Christian Pulisic.

The Borussia Dortmund winger scored his third goal in four games on Tuesday afternoon, helping lead the way in the club’s DFB-Pokal clash with Sportfreunde Lotte. The goal is Pulisic’s sixth in all competitions this season.

Following a surprisingly difficult first half with the third division club, Pulisic fired Dortmund into the lead with a 57th minute. Trailing on a Dortmund counter attack, Pulisic was played through by Ousmane Dembele, who slipped a pass to the onrushing American. Pulisic fired his shot through the goalkeeper’s legs, giving Dortmund the 1-0 lead.

Just nine minutes later, Andre Schurrle doubled the lead, all but sealing a spot in the semifinals against Bayern Munich.

Here’s a closer look at Pulisic’s goal:

  1. Looking at the latest call ups looks like Pulisic will be the Ibra to our Sweden. All Ibra no other talent. Nothing to get excited about for the future. You can point to Gooch, Hyndman and Zalelem but none of them are playing at top tier clubs and performing.

  2. Dortmund is such a technically sound squad. The of the ball run by the forward was as much to do with that goal as Dembele’s attack, Pulisic’s run and finish. That was an example of beautiful soccer and be used by clubs throughout the country to illustrate dribbling at opponents, unselfish off the ball runs, overlaps, and clinical finishing.

    • Absolutely Dembele did the hard work, but don’t overlook (perhaps) the most impressive aspect of Pulisic’s entire contribution: his angle/run.

We know he has ability, but he might have even more “soccer intelligence” within his arsenal. When players have both, it’s a beautiful thing. Especially for us USMNT fans.
