Tuesday UCL Rewind: Leicester shock Sevilla, Juventus beat Porto.

Leicester City’s dream debut in the UEFA Champions League continued on Tuesday after they erased a 2-1 first leg deficit to defeat Sevilla 3-2 on aggregate.

Craig Shakespeare’s side knew a strong second leg at the King Power Stadium could see it advance to its first ever quarterfinal appearance. Wes Morgan opened the scoring in the 27th minute after he bundled Riyad Mahrez’s assist from inside the box. Sevilla came close to going back in front after Sergio Escudero saw his long-range strike go off the crossbar in the 53rd minute.

A minute later Leicester extended its lead to 2-0 as Marc Albrighton’s left-footed finish left Sergio Rico flatfooted. The visitors were reduced to 10-men in the 74th as midfielder Samir Nasri earned a second yellow card for headbutting Jamie Vardy.

However, the moment of the match came in the 80th minute as Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel saved Steven N’Zonzi’s penalty kick to keep the Foxes ahead. The keeper had tackled Sevilla wingback Vitolo which forced referee Daniele Orsato to blow the whistle. Leicester is the eighth different English side in history to make it to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

JUVENTUS ADVANCE COMFORTABLY PAST PORTO

Massimiliano Allegri’s side cruised to the quarterfinals after a 1-0 victory at home in Tuesday’s second leg against FC Porto. The visitors were reduced to 10 men for the second consecutive leg after Maxi Pereira earned a straight red card for handball in the 40th minute.

Two minutes later, Juventus striker Paulo Dybala slotted home his second goal of the competition, and 14th in all competitions from the penalty spot. Diego Jota’s 89th-minute effort for Porto was the closest the visitors came to scoring.

Juventus held on for a comfortable 3-0 aggregate victory which sees them into the quarterfinals for the second time in the last three seasons. The current Serie A leaders are looking to get back to the Champions League final which they were in back in 2014-15.

Porto fall out of the competition in the Round of the 16 for the third time in their history.
