U.S. U-20s vs. El Salvador: Your Running Commentary

u-20mex

The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team can book their spot in the U-20 World Cup on Friday night.

Following Monday’s win over Mexico, the U.S. head into Friday’s clash with El Salvador with a stranglehold on a World Cup spot. The U.S. can seal a spot in South Korea with a win, draw or loss by less than two goals, while a win or a draw would be enough to send the U.S. into the CONCACAF final against Honduras.

Head coach Tab Ramos has gone with a generally familiar starting XI, featuring the defensive pairing of Timmy Redding and Justen Glad as well as the star midfield trio of Erik Palmer-Brown, Tyler Adams and Eryk Williamson. Emmanuel Sabbi joins the fray at striker, while the Philadelphia Union’s Auston Trusty also moves into the starting XI.

  1. The ref really let that game get out of hand. If you issue three red cards you’ve had a pretty bad day. He was letting El Salvador get away with a lot of extra contact and over aggressive tackling from the start and no wonder it escalated to some near brawls at the end.

  2. Got a little chippy at the very end. The kid from ES connected a few really nice punches to our guys face. Can’t belive he didn’t get sent off. In fairness, I think our player got him first.

  3. So last Dortmund game of the season is May 20th. The u-20 World Cup runs from May 19th to the Final on June 11th. The USMNT senior team has World Cup qualifiers on June 8th and 11th. Looks like there is zero chance Pulisic plays in the u-20 World Cup.

    • Yeah, wouldn’t bet on it. Really no reason to play at this level anymore. Still, there are other players that could make a major difference in the summer: Zelalem, McKennie, Perez, Akale, CCV. Team could look very different, especially in the attack.

  4. Facebook stream pretty good. I like this trend. What happened with the El Salvador goal? I was watching just prior it seemed the US was being lax.

  5. GOAL SABBI! U.S. now in the driver’s seat for a spot in the CONCACAF final thanks to a goal from Emmanuel Sabbi. Great find from Eryk Williamson, who slides Sabbi in for the finish.

    • GOLAZO WILLIAMSON! Giveaway from the El Salvador goalkeeper and Williamson smashes a shot from outside of the box. Great finish and it’s 2-0 U.S.

      • GOAL EL SALVADOR! U.S. lead cut to one on a well-worked goal from El Salvador. Ball crossed in is finished first-time by Marvin Marquez, making the score 2-1. Not over yet.
