English action featured plenty of Americans Abroad with one making a rare start and another making his return to his side’s starting XI following a recent return from injury.
Brad Guzan earned the starting nod for Middlesbrough on Monday, but the U.S. Men’s National Team goalkeeper couldn’t lead his side to a point in a 2-1 loss to Arsenal. Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil provided the goals for the struggling Gunners, who send Middlesbrough closer to relegation with Monday’s result.
DeAndre Yedlin’s Newcastle, meanwhile, is close to promotion, but failed to take that extra step closer in a 3-1 defeat. Yedlin returned as a substitute over the weekend before earning a start on Monday, playing 78 minutes in the loss to Ipswich Town.
Tim Ream and Fulham are in a push for the promotion playoff, and Monday’s 3-1 win over Aston Villa pushes the club into the fourth and final spot in that competition. David Wagner’s Huddersfield is also in the mix, with a 1-1 draw with Derby County on Monday.
Elsewhere, Mix Diskerud started again for his new club, while Shane O’Neill played the first half of an NAC Breda draw.

OK, this is a Julian Green post. Please can we not have the personal attacks on JK or Green. I am just curious as to why Green could make the 18 for Bayern, but now he can’t play for Stuttgart? It just doesn’t make sense to me. Maybe I am missing something obvious. Did Bayern sell him or loan him? If they sold him, than maybe all the preseason stuff and making the 18 was a way to raise his value. Anybody have any useful input?
From what I remember, they sold him. I hope him and Jerome K both get back to playing and can contribute to the nats. I do agree with your point kind of a head scratcher. Ancelotti even made a statement, saying Green will see the field more and it did not happen.
Hard really to tell what is going on. When Green was sold to Stuttgart, there was a lot of talk of how deep the AM was for Stuttgart. Their top striker is leading the 2.Bundesliga in goals this season, so any thought of staying as CF as he was for Ancelloti was out as well. Stuttgart went through a stretch of only 6 points in 6 matches, which put them back in a battle for the top promotion spots so they may be reverting to earlier lineups to regain form. Yesterday, they subbed one of their DMs at half and then the sub had to be taken off 30 minutes later so perhaps its also just some bad luck that he hasn’t seen more time.

By no means is this meant to be a personal attack on JG but could it be that just hasn’t progressed enough to be consistently in the lineup?? It is weird that he was playing a lot when he first moved to Stuttgart and now he is barely seeing the field. We’ve all seen his potential in spurts with the NT but at club level you have to bring it every week, and maybe he just isn’t better than what they have been trotting out on the field of late!
I don’t remember Green consistently making the 18 for Bayern. Maybe occasionally, mostly in cup games.
