MLS Ticker: Orlando City closes in on Gil, Jones attracting interest and more

Orlando City may have lost a few players to injury, but it could be nearing a deal to bolster its midfield.

According to ESPN, Orlando is close to signing midfielder Luis Gil from Queretaro on a loan deal. The Lions will also reportedly send $50,000 in targeted allocation money to Real Salt Lake for Gil’s rights and RSL could reportedly receive another $50,000 in TAM if the 23-year-old midfielder is signed permanently.

Should the move go through, Gil would be reunited with Jason Kreis, who was his coach from 2010 to 2013 at RSL. The midfielder accumulated 158 appearances in all competitions before moving to Liga MX in 2015.

However, Gil has played in just 14 games and is still goalless since making his move to Mexico.

Joevin Jones attracting interest from abroad

It’s not often that a federation reports on a player’s club future, but it appears Joevin Jones is making waves with his recent play.

Trinidad and Tobago’s official website claims that the Seattle Sounders defender is garnering interest from Mexico, the German Bundesliga and La Liga.

Jones has made 65 regular season appearances for the Sounders and Chicago Fire since 2015. The 25-year-old fullback has also earned 54 caps with Trinidad since debuting in 2010.

Red Bulls loan Alex Muyl, two others to Red Bulls II

Alex Muyl is headed to New York Red Bulls II, at least temporarily.

The Red Bulls announced on Wednesday that they have loaned Muyl, goalkeeper Ryan Meara and defender Michael Amir Murillo to their USL affiliate ahead of its game against the Harrisburg City Islanders. The team can choose to recall the players at any stage during the MLS regular season.

Muyl, 21, has made four appearances so far this season for the Red Bulls, starting in two matches.

  1. One can only wonder why, at 25, jones is still in the mls. Should have moved on a while ago. Real talent on display at times, could be a real quality player if honed in Europe ASAP. Hone consistency and decision making.
