Americans Abroad Midweek Preview: Villafana, Arriola, Corona and more

The 2017 Clausura Liguilla quarterfinals begin midweek as several Americans look to help push their club towards a Liga MX crown.

After finish atop the table through the 17-game Clausura campaign, the American contingent at Tijuana will look to make a push through the Liguilla. Paul Arriola, Joe Corona and co. finished with a four-point gap between themselves and second place, earning a date with Morelia to open the tournament.

Santos Laguna finished in fifth place, sealing a matchup against fourth-place Toluca on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, Jose Torres and Tigres barely scraped in with a seventh-place finish as they now face off with Edgar Castillo’s Monterrey in the quarterfinal round.

Each tie is a two-legged affair with the second round of each matchup coming over the weekend.
