It wasn’t pretty, but the Houston Dynamo found a way to earn a road point against their in-state rival.

The Dynamo played FC Dallas to an entertaining 0-0 draw Sunday evening at Toyota Park in Dallas. Mauro Diaz’s return for Dallas left something to be desired for the home team. FCD controlled possession on the night and created 16 shots. Unfortunately, the majority of their chances were off target, with just four shots on net.

The story of the match was the efforts from both goalkeepers. Jesse Gonzalez and Tyler Deric each made big stops during the match to keep their teams in the game.

First, Deric came up big on a free kick in the 26th minute. Kellyn Acosta’s curling free kick looked destined for the upper-90, but Deric reacted quickly and got both hands to the shot. Deric came up with another big save ten minutes later, saving a shot from the center of the box from Christian Colman. Michael Barios sent in a cross from wide right and Colman beat Leonardo to the ball, but a diving Deric got just enough of a touch to send the shot wide.

Gonzalez’s big moment came in the second half. In the 65th minute, Dynamo midfielder Alex received the ball on the left flank. His cross in found Mauro Manotas at the back post but Gonzalez sprawled to his left and denied the Dynamo from stealing all three points.

FC Dallas is now winless in four matches and remains tied with the Dynamo for third in the Western Conference.

Man Of The Match

Tyler Deric stood on his head against a potent FC Dallas attack. Admittedly, FC Dallas was a bit off on the night, but they created enough chances to walk away with the victory. Deric’s performance kept the Dynamo in the game, and almost allowed them to snatch the victory.

Moment Of The Match

Tyler Deric’s save on Kellyn Acosta’s free kick in the first half was a thing of beauty. Deric read the play well and reacted perfectly to keep the game in the balance.

Match To Forget

Max Urruti seemed a step off all night. Plenty of credit belongs to the Dynamo’s backline for minimizing the talented striker, but Urruti carries his share of the blame on the night.
