With World Cup qualifiers looming, Jermaine Jones is set to miss extended time with a knee injury.

The LA Galaxy announced that Jones is set to miss three-to-four weeks after suffering an MCL sprain in a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire over the weekend. The timeline would see him return just before the U.S. Men’s National Team faces off with Trinidad & Tobago on June 11.

Jones has started three of the USMNT’s four matches during the Hexagonal phase. Jones’ lone absence was caused by suspension as the U.S. throttled Honduras, 6-0, with Jones out of the lineup. The veteran midfielder returned to the lineup for the next match against Panama, a 1-1 draw.

The midfielder has recorded one goal and two assists in eight matches for the struggling Galaxy this season.

  1. This is how many aging players fade away. Injuries become more frequent and recovery takes longer. Jones like a lot of older players is as good once as he ever was, but not as routinely as in the past.

  2. I can think of several combinations that would work against T&T, but its the game in Mexico that we will really miss Jones’ toughness. Mexico has demolished us in the midfield the last few games we’ve played them, I think we need 3 in the center against them. I would try a midfield triangle of Dempsey in front of Bradley and Cameron. Gonzales is off a big year and Bruce likes him so he fills in at CB for Cameron.

  3. This may be a blessing in disguise if we’re to sincerely figure out our midfield.

It’s obvious to all that a Bradley/Jones pairing does not work. Unfortunately, of the two, it’s Bradley tha has no business being a regular starter given his obvious decline in ability since pre-World Cup 2014.

Hopefully someone steps up and claims the spot that isn’t annointed by hype, but rather substance. Far too many people get obsessed with certain names that do not warrant it.

  4. Mixed feelings. Love his play for the national team more so than most, but for the galaxy he’s been lost.

Seems to me that Onalfo took a gamble and put his faith on jones when he pulled Van Damme before the half, but now jones is hurt, looks like it didn’t pay off.

    • Not sure we’ll see Acosta starting quite yet. TnT at home I would expect a more offensive line up that would have CP or Duece at the point of a diamond midfield with Bradley holding the deep role. I also don’t see giving Acosta his first start in the Azteca, perhaps Nagbe playing alongside Bradley with Pulisic and Johnson/Zardes on the wing.

      • 1) Nagbe was sidelined this past weekend due to an injury. Not sure how long he’s expected to be out, but it’s something to consider.
        2) Arena & Porter have both said that Nagbe’s best position is Left Wing. Not sure Bruce is willing to put him in the center of the park.
        3) Fabian has been sidelined for a while with a hamstring injury. I know he’s nearing a return, but he’ll have to knock the rust off.

  5. injuries are non stop for him for a while now.

LA Galaxy stink with him. Not going to be pretty.

US needs someone to step up in the role of we are not going to lose, or I will die trying.
We need that mentality from more than just Jones. Might be good for team.
