SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week: Matt Miazga

Several Americans Abroad sealed major achievements during the week, but there’s certainly something special about winning a trophy, especially when that trophy is the first in club history.

Matt Miazga helped Vitesse seal the club’s first ever major trophy on Sunday, leading the way in a 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the Dutch Cup final. The win saw Miazga lock up silverware in his first full season in Europe while earning the defender honors as SBI Americans Abroad Player of the Week.

Starting in the heart of the defense, the former New York Red Bulls centerback anchored the Vitesse backline en route to a clean sheet. It was a match Vitesse left for late, as forward Ricky van Wolfswinkel fired goals in the 81st and 88th minutes to seal the win.

Miazga has played in 21 of the club’s 32 matches this year, but none bigger than Saturday’s. His efforts earned him honors ahead of DeAndre Yedlin, Brad Guzan and Tim Ream.

What do you think of Miazga’s achievement? Which American do you think had the best week?
