Trusty replaces Fossey on U.S. U-20 roster

Shortly after announcing his roster, U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team head coach Tab Ramos said Auston Trusty would serve as an insurance policy. Due to a key injury, Ramos will use that insurance policy ahead of Monday’s Under-20 World Cup opener.

U.S. Soccer announced on Wednesday that Trusty will replace fellow defender Marlon Fossey on the U.S. squad. Trusty, who featured once during qualifying, has been with the team since training camp opened after being named as a tournament alternate.

Fossey has, in turn, been released back to Fulham. The defender had been battling a groin injury and was in a race against time to be fit for the tournament. Fossey started all but one match at right back during the team’s run through qualifying.

The U.S. arrived in Korea on Wednesday night ahead of Monday’s U-20 World Cup opener against Ecuador.

Here’s a closer look at the U.S. roster:

GOALKEEPERS: Jonathan Klinsmann (University of California; Newport Beach, Calif.), J.T. Marcinkowski (Georgetown; Alamo, Calif.), Brady Scott (De Anza Force; Petaluma, Calif.)

DEFENDERS: Danny Acosta (Real Salt Lake; Salt Lake City, Utah), Cameron Carter-Vickers (Tottenham Hotspur FC; Westcliff-on-Sea, England), Justen Glad (Real Salt Lake; Tucson, Ariz.), Aaron Herrera (University of New Mexico; Las Cruces, N.M.), Erik Palmer-Brown (Sporting Kansas City; Lee’s Summit, Mo.), Tommy Redding (Orlando City SC; Oviedo, Fla.), Auston Trusty (Philadelphia Union; Media, Pa.)

MIDFIELDERS: Tyler Adams (New York Red Bulls; Wappingers Falls, N.Y.), Luca De La Torre (Fulham FC; San Diego, Calif.), Derrick Jones (Philadelphia Union; Philadelphia, Pa.), Eryk Williamson (University of Maryland; Alexandria, Va.), Gedion Zelalem (Arsenal FC; Bethesda, Md.)

FORWARDS: Jeremy Ebobisse (Portland Timbers; Bethesda, Md.), Lagos Kunga (Atlanta United FC Academy; Tucker, Ga.) Brooks Lennon (Real Salt Lake; Paradise Valley, Ariz.), Emmanuel Sabbi (Unattached; Columbus, Ohio), Josh Sargent (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri; O’Fallon, Mo.), Sebastian Saucedo (Real Salt Lake; Park City, Utah)

  • I scored three goals in one game

I think that’s a big blow to the team, thought he had a very good qualifying. I guess good news is it appears CCV and Glad are good to go

I’m guessing we’ll see Herrera and Acosta as the starting outside backs? Once again, a U.S. team is unbelievably thin at fullback, but that center back pool, wow. Wonder if someone like a Derrick Jones could play outside back if needed?

What is best source for news on the u-20’s leading up to the first game? Any scrimmages with others teams to see how we will line up? Thx

Probably USSoccer.com or the @ussoccer_ynt on twitter. If there are any scrimmages they are being held behind close doors, there are no friendly games on the official team schedule. The twitter account is usually good for training pics and player profiles, but not much analysis. MLS website just put up a cup preview and I’m sure Fox and ESPN will have something before the games begin.
