David Wagner inks new deal with Huddersfield Town

David Wagner has reaffirmed his commitment to Huddersfield Town, following the team’s promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

The German-American manager signed a new contract with the club on Friday, which will keep him with Huddersfield until the summer of 2019. Joining him is assistant head coach Christoph Buehler, who also signed until 2019.

Huddersfield, who are gearing up for their first ever Premier League campaign, earned promotion via a Playoff Final shootout victory over Reading back on May 29th.

Wagner and Buehler joined Huddersfield from Borussia Dortmund II in November 2015, making an immediate impact at the club. In 2015-16, Huddersfield finished the season in 19th place with 51 points.

The team finished 2016-17 in fifth place with 81 points, good enough for a spot in the EFL Championship Playoffs. After edging Sheffield Wednesday 4-3 in penalties in their second-leg, Wagner’s team completed the dream season, as keeper Danny Ward saved Jordan Obita’s final penalty to seal their ascension.

August 12th marks Huddersfield’s first top-flight season in 45 years, as they travel to Crystal Palace in the season opener.
