It turns out that two Columbus Crew regulars won’t feature against the U.S. Men’s National Team on Saturday.

According to ESPN, Harrison Afful and Jonathan Mensah have been called back by the club ahead of Ghana’s friendly against the USMNT this weekend. The two started Ghana’s friendly against Mexico on Wednesday, with Afful serving as captain, but the duo flew back on Thursday morning to join the Crew for this weekend’s match against Atlanta United.

Their club teammate, Mohammed Abu, will remain with Ghana. He is joined by the Chicago Fire’s David Accam and New England Revolution’s Gershon Koffie as MLS representatives on the Ghana roster.

Saturday’s match falls outside of a FIFA date, allowing clubs to deny players’ involvement.

  1. I’m bummed that they’re not going to be on the field against the US tomorrow. Crew have the depth to let them play – I kinda want to see someone else on the Crew back line for Mensah anyway…
