Report: Guardado agrees to join Los Angeles FC

After a long flirt with MLS, particularly Atlanta United, Mexican international Andres Guardado is reportedly set to join a U.S.-based team, but a bit further west than expected.

Following the FIFA Confederations Cup in Russia, Guardado is reportedly set to join Los Angeles FC as the team’s first DP, according to ESPN. The Mexican midfielder reportedly already has a flight set to the U.S. after the conclusion of the tournament, where he will join LAFC on a four-year contract as the figurehead of their upcoming 2018 debut season.

Guardado was long the subject of MLS rumors, and was heavily linked with one of the two most recent expansion teams, Atlanta United, before the deal reportedly fell through and Atlanta signed Josef Martinez instead. Guardado joins from PSV Eindhoven of the Dutch Eredivisie, where he’s played since 2014 after departing La Liga club Valencia CF.

The 30-year old has featured prominently for the Mexican National Team, making 133 appearances and scoring 24 goals for his country. His signing would continue a trend of MLS targeting Mexican internationals, as the league has also been linked to Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez, as well as Jonathan dos Santos, brother of the LA Galaxy’s Giovani dos Santos.

  1. LAFC should on: Aguero, Pastore, DiMaria, Bale,Lukaku etc…Just the one below top elite or International Super Stars from MX like: Gignac, Puch, Boselli, Dayro Moreno etc…not mexicans but MX’s elite stars.

  3. Very smart to go for Guardado instead of Jonathon Dos Santos. Every knows if you have two Dos Santos, you really don’t have one. But I’m afraid this signing is much more sinister than it appears. Is MLS really targeting Mexican internationals or is this yet another false flag that the lame stream media refuses to cover? Is it really a coincidence that the number Mexicans in MLS is ramping up right as Trump is starting his push for the border wall? I think not folks, especially on the heals of these Cyle Larin shenanigans.

Sure the Dynamo are much improved this year in their attack, but the real Fox in the box is former Mexico President Vicente. Just two days ago, Fox called for open international cannabis between the US, Mexico and Canada and what better way to set up distribution that through Mexican citizens in a US/Canada top flight? Framing Larin for a DUI is just one more open roster spot to fill with a Mexican international.

And that’s just the tip of the ice berg. Is it a coincidence that the Dynamo are all of a sudden signing Hondurans. Well just 20 hours ago, Hondo President Juan (ORLANDO!!!!) Hernandez urged the US to extend his countrymen legal status because “transplants from Honduras are the “best” immigrants the U.S. could ask for.” Not that we shouldn’t expect a gaslighting like this from a team that’s been sponsored by Amigo and Greenstar energy.

If we don’t put a stop to this now, then surely we’re ensuring the downfall of both our league and our country and I sure as heck won’t stand for it sitting down. Really makes you think

  4. I hope that LAFC invest in physios. Lots of physios. I think that he is a very good player when healthy. I would like to see them or anyone in MLS make a run at Niño Torres on a free. That would be cool to see.

  5. I make no secret of my “sports” hate for Mexico, but I absolutely love seeing the regions top talent play within MLS.

I stand by the mentality of that being the key element for this league to take the next step.Even if it’s just for the start (or end) of their career, I think it’s great for the region and health of the league.

    • The problem: Central Americans at Galaxy’s game get labeled “mexicans”. Vast majority those Central Americans rather see big name players, they’re not friendlies towards mexican soccer.
Or People born & raise here (U.S.) are not mexicans but people in the media label them as “mexicans” because their background, & some people don’t anything about mexico or barely speak “Spanglish”.

  6. Just use stands fair ad blocker. Takes a few clicks and you can surf the worst porn neighborhoods on the ‘Net without fear of browserjacking. I’d lose my mind trying to deal with the modern Net without it since so many advertisers are just overtly jacking everyone’s browsers now…and don’t hold your breath waiting for the sites to control them since they know who butters their jelly rolls.

  7. Ives, respectfully, the ads on this site are becoming unbearable, particularly for mobile. I’ve been a loyal reader for years but it’s getting to the point that it’s no longer enjoyable to read your site. If I’m the only one, take it with a grain of salt, but I suspect not.

    • I complained about this some time ago, obviously to no effect. I understand they want to make money, but it also affects the speed of the web site, how quickly things load, etc. Too often you have to wait for a script to run before you can get to the story you want or to post a comment.

    • you’re not alone – but a simple add blocker extension to your browser should take care of the issue.

      which browser do you use?

    • How do you expect the site to make money? It’s the only way to make money. Espn has their website as a loss leader to their money making television stations. That being said, I have add blocker and almost never see adds on my google chrome.

    • This may be shocking to some of you…. but I can more or less promise that SBI is not going to be the subject of a multi-billion dollar Amazon takeover a-la Whole Foods anytime soon. It is a labor of love from a guy who loves the US game. If you want to begrudge Ives the right to make a few extra bucks to take care of this staff, family, whoever…. good for you. Don’t like the pop-up ads? Shocking! Wake up and show the man some respect.
