FOXBOROUGH — The New England Revolution capitalized on the momentum from their win a week ago to finish off the Philadelphia Union 3-0 on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium.

Kei Kamara scored twice and Juan Agudelo added a goal for the Revs against the Andre Blake-less Union.

Kamara scored for the second straight weekend, notching his first brace in over a year, while Agudelo — making his first appearance back with the team after winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup final on Wednesday — subbed on in the 67th minute and then headed home the final goal in the 89th minute.

After backup Brad Knighton started in his place last week against the LA Galaxy, goalkeeper Cody Cropper returned to the starting lineup to notch his fifth clean sheet of the season and the Revolution’s first shutout since June 3rd against Toronto FC.

Kamara put the hosts ahead in the 38th minute on a chip into the box from Kelyn Rowe. Kamara went completely inverted, getting his leg way up to beat Union goalie John McCarthy to the ball.

It still looked like anyone’s game late into the second half as the Union upped the intensity looking for an equalizer, but Kamara struck again to make it 2-0 in the 85th minute.

Lee Nguyen found Andrew Farrell making a run down the right flank, and the Revs defender picked up his second assist in as many weeks, cutting it back to Kamara for a low finish inside the right post from 10 yards out to put the Revs securely in position to claim three points.

Agudelo put the cherry on top four minutes later on a right corner cross from Scott Caldwell. Agudelo swooped in to beat Union defender Raymon Gaddis to the ball and head it inside the far post.

The Revolution’s win moves them up one spot to ninth in the Eastern Conference and leaves them tied with Philadelphia in points with 26 apiece. The Union remain in eighth place due to the goal differential tiebreaker, but the Revs have a game in hand over their I-95 rivals.

After winning back-to-back home games the Revs will shoot for their first road victory of the season against the Chicago Fire next Saturday, while the Union will host FC Dallas on Saturday night.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Kamara put himself front and center after making public comments last weekend about his dissatisfaction over how his tenure with the Revs has gone so far, but he came through with possibly his best performance in a Revolution uniform. He got good service on crosses and centering balls, but the 32-year-old seemed motivated to show that he can still produce at a high level.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

Kamara’s full extension on his first goal showed he’s still invested in the Revolution’s success, but it was a defensive play by Kamara in the 70th minute that helped keep the Union from gaining any momentum. The Union’s Oguchi Onyewu put a header on target off a right side corner that looked like it might be the equalizer, but Kamara was there to head it over the crossbar and save the day.

MATCH TO FORGET

The Union in general seemed a little bit flat and didn’t have the must-win attitude the Revs showed. Forward C.J. Sapong had zero shots, while U.S. Men’s National Team members Chris Pontius and Alejandro Bedoya weren’t able to put the same imprint on the game as their Gold Cup teammates Agudelo and Rowe.
