Report: LAFC set to hire Bob Bradley as first coach

Los Angeles FC is reportedly set to make a major splash with the club’s first head coaching hire.

According to Goal USA, Bob Bradley is set to join the expansion club as the team’s first head coach. The club is set to begin play in 2018, and they will do so under the leadership of the former U.S. Men’s National Team manager.

The job would be Bradley’s first since he was unceremoniously fired by Premier League club Swansea City after just 85 days and 11 games. Prior to his job in England, Bradley managed Norway’s Stabaek and French second division side Le Havre with great success.

Bradley managed the USMNT from 2006-11, leading the team to the 2007 Gold Cup and a runners-up finish at the 2009 Confederations Cup. After his firing in 2011, Bradley managed the Egyptian national team before turning his sights towards European club soccer.

In terms of an MLS resume, Bradley previously took charge of the Chicago Fire, Chivas USA and the Metrostars. He won an MLS Cup and two U.S. Open Cups while in charge of the Fire.

  1. Hurray the boring empty bucket returns. guillermo barros schelotto Was the correct choice. He is a far better coach. He knows mls. And obviously wants to coach here since he keeps interviewing for jobs in mls.

      • Because MLS owners make dumb decisions all the time. Also the teams he has interviewed with are not exactly big spenders. So I am guessing money is also involved. But The guy has won the Copa Sudamericana with LinĂºs and I believe it is two Apatura titles with Boca as a coach. And if not for UEFA refusing to allow him to coach Palermo he would a much more high profile coach than he is now. I would take him all day and twice on sunday over Bradley.

      • Fair enough. Just saying if he is so much better than all these other coaches why does he continually get passed on? I’m guessing all the owners are dumb.

  2. Kinda sad because I think BB is a solid choice for a top 5 league coach, but still happy to see him back in MLS again.

    • You have to look no further than the Guardian’s comment section on anything USA-soccer-related to see what the Euro community thinks of American soccer. Bob is trudging uphill without a shovel through about two miles of pure crap-ola abroad and by now he’s well aware of it. Kinda like a million Rob’s all lined up to heap scorn on how we play the game.

At some point when we pass the Eurosnobs it’s really going to burn, which is of course what it’s really always been about.

  3. So I guess that the one dude (somewhere else on the interweb) who was musing about LAFC making an offer to bring in Giovanni Savarese is going to have to revisit that, huh?

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the dude’s boldness in tossing it out there but you’d expect LAFC to go with a bigger name than the current Cosmos’ head guy when selecting their first coach.

Or maybe that’s just me bein’ crazy. Again.

  4. Fantastic.

The way for the league to continue improving is directly linked to the quality of managers. Good man, good hire, and good for a brand new club (something Mr. Bradley has a bit of sucess with).

  5. It’s really a great hire, in my opinion. He has the US-based knowledge, while having international experience so that foreign players may still be interested in playing for him. The only other hires that I would have expected were either Osorio or Hiddink (sp?). But, after the recent Mexico debacle, I think Osorio is a no-go. And, I’d imagine the price tag for Hiddink makes him less attractive.

Now, with Chicharito having signed for West Ham, who is the first big player signing? Zlatan? Rooney? Sneijder?
