SBI USMNT Man of the Match: Brad Guzan

Brad Guzan saved more than the five Panama shots he was credited with stopping. He also saved a point for the U.S. Men’s National Team in its Gold Cup opener.

His stellar work in the American goal kept Panama from taking all three points. He robbed multiple Canaleros with quick reactions and strong hands to earn SBI MLS Man of the Match honors.

Guzan’s first big save of the match came just over a half hour in when he dove to get a palm to a Panama shot destined for the lower corner in the first half.

The real moment of heroism came in the 55th minute. Panama looked sure to equalize when Gabriel Torres was gifted a header from point blank range, but a quick reaction from Guzan kept the score level. He even made a big save in the seconds leading up to the tying goal, but he was helpless to stop the rebound from crossing the line.

Other players had strong games for the USMNT as well. Dom Dwyer scored his second international goal in only his second game. Kellyn Rowe provided the assist on said goal while also creating a few nice chances of his own.

What did you think of Guzan’s efforts in goal? What other players stood out for the USMNT? Who earned your vote for Man of the Match?
