Cameron Carter-Vickers’ loan stint with Sheffield United got off to a perfect start on Tuesday afternoon.
The U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team centerback scored a goal in his debut match for the Championship side on Tuesday against Bolton. The defender’s goal came in the 33rd minute, giving the Blades a 1-0 lead heading towards the halftime break.

The 19-year-old defender provided another chance just before the break, but saw his chance pushed away by Bolton goalkeeper Ben Alnwick.
Stunning save from Ben Alnwick to deny Cameron Carter-Vickers from point-blank range. (42) #BWFC 0-1 #twitterblades 🐘 🏰

I love it that a British person is getting excited about an American CB’s two footedness on an exciting finish.
American xenophobia in soccer? We’ve got more than Freddy Adu and Jozy to offer now, MF’s. Try to tell us we suck now, prejudiced coaches. 🙂
The most important aspect of this loan is CCV getting minutes consistently. This is an area where too many young Americans struggle….transitioning from young prospect to full professional. The more young players like CCV, Miazga, Pulisic, McKennie see the field as part of a clubs first team, the more the USMNT will benefit.
I Just hope that Arena will acknowledge the strides these players are making and give them a real shot sooner rather than later.
CCV is so far down the CB pecking order I would be stunned if he was truly in the national team picture before the World Cup. Great prospect for the future
Miazga is on the outside looking in right now, but has a chance to play his way on the roster considering how some other CBs have played lately.
Mckennie is an interesting one. He is in a major position of need and on the fringes of a high level club. If he can play well with consistent minutes I would not be shocked if he had a late run at the World Cup roster becuase we have so few qualified options here.
A center back who shoots with both feet? Nice!
