Matt Miazga scores in Vitesse Arnhem win

Matt Miazga has been a solid addition to Vitesse Arnhem’s backline since joining on loan last season.

However, the 22-year-old was able to help his team offensively on Friday scoring the first goal in a 2-0 home win against FC Groningen.

Miazga rose the highest, heading home Lassana Faye’s cross to the bottom-left corner in the sixth minute.

It was a great start for Vitesse who doubled their lead later in the first-half. Miazga now has two goals this season, the most so far in a single professional campaign of his career.

Friday also marked the U.S. international’s 20th league appearance for the club, which is tied for the most of any defender on the team this season.

The third win out of their last four matches has Vitesse sitting in sixth place in the Dutch Eredivisie.

  1. Miazga is benefiting tremendously from this loan, yet I still don’t see him ever suiting up for Chelsea but I hope I am wrong! If he keeps this trajectory up w could see other big clubs inquiring about his services

    • I dunno. The dude is smooth, smooth, smooth. His positional awareness is exceptional and his distribution out of the back is excellent. He doesn’t come across as quite the athlete a John Brooks or even a Geoff Cameron are, but he redirects so easily and you never seem to see him get eaten up by pace.

And he always makes it look so, so easy.

Guy just seems to see it, feel it, never seems to take a wrong foot forward, always seems to have a knack for the right thing at the right time. Polar opposite in approach of, say, Walker Zimmerman, who is an ultra-intense, almost frenetic competitor who goes in 110% into every challenge and will bang and bully you all game long.

So…again, I dunno. With Miazga’s skills and composure we certainly haven’t seen near his ceiling yet. I definitely think he’s a Prem starter somewhere even if Chelsea doesn’t keep him.

      • Yeah agree. I have very high confidence in Miazga’s future at this point. It’s not about “potential” anymore. He looks more an more like a sure thing out there…. he’ll find a permanent landing spot for a quality club sooner rather than later.
