Sydney Leroux traded to Orlando Pride

Sydney Leroux will be reunited in the same town as husband and Orlando City forward Dom Dwyer for the 2018 season.

Leroux was traded to the Orlando Pride by the Utah Royals in exchange for a first-round pick in the 2019 NWSL Draft on Friday.

The 27-year-old forward, who played for FC Kansas City the last two seasons, joins an attack in Orlando that includes Brazilian star Marta and U.S. Women’s National Team standout Alex Morgan.

Leroux scored six goals in 23 appearances in her return to the field in 2017 after giving birth to the couple’s first child, Cassius, in 2016.

Dwyer and Leroux previously played in the same city in Kansas City, but that changed when the U.S. Men’s National Team forward was shipped to Orlando City in July.

    • I personally don’t have a problem with a player who’s able to leverage a move.

Good for Leroux. This was utterly predictable given her previous history and the recent changes in the NWSL landscape.

I don’t think you have to be “unreasonable” to question the move or have an opinion different than mine. I get it. I just disagree with their take. I wouldn’t begin to berate them because they have a different take on this move.

Leroux is one of the few players on the women’s side with that kind of juice; I ain’t mad at her. Not in the least.

  1. If WoSo wants to be taken seriously, you can’t have these “goodwill” moves happening in regards to keeping soccer couples together.

    • I see your concerns, but athletes make moves for their families and quality of life a the time. Sometimes, they take pay cuts. I know people want athletes to be all about winning, but that is not the case. That isn’t even the case in our lives. Not everyone is concerned about being the best banker, lawyer, doctor at the sacrifice of their personal lives. I am Sydney strongly stated she wanted to move and Orlando and Utah worked it out if they could. She might even take a salary hit s she and Dom could be in the same place.

    • She actually “leveraged” her trade to KC. Then a week after it was announced she was coming to KC she announces she’s pregnant. So KC was on the hook for her fat salary while she sat out whole year. It looked very bad. And now KC folded citing financial problems. Not surprised. It looked pretty bad.
