NBA owners Tom Gores and Dan Gilbert and MLS commissioner Don Garber unveiled plans for a potential MLS expansion franchise in Detroit on Wednesday.

Tom Gores, owner of NBA franchise Detroit Pistons, and Cleveland Cavaliers majority owner Dan Gilbert are reportedly teaming up in an attempt to bring an MLS team to the Motor City.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber said Sacramento and St. Louis were the “front-runners” for MLS expansion, while Detroit, San Diego, San Antonio, Austin and Cincinnati follow suite in that order.
Speaking in Sacramento on Thursday, MLS Commissioner Don Garber shared his vision of having MLS expand to 28 teams, and Sacramento Republic FC is “further along” than other markets.
The ownership group behind the USL’s Oklahoma City Energy stated the club’s desire to move into MLS.
Minnesota United unveiled a series of renderings for the club’s new 20,000 seat stadium on Wednesday.
A group including St. Louis Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III and St. Louis Blues CEO Chris Zimmerman, among others, is reportedly working together to bring an MLS team to St. Louis.
