Mohamed Zidan netted a pair of goals to lead defending champion Egypt to a 4-2 win against Cameroon in African Nation’s Cup action on Tuesday. Samuel Eto’o scored both goals for Cameroon but it was little consolation for the Barcelona striker.
For those of you unfamiliar with Zidan (pictured), the young striker has plied his trade in Germany in recent years and currently plays for Hamburg SV.
An interesting factoid from the match. Former Colorado Rapids Alain Nkong was on the bench for Cameroon. Currently playing in Mexico, Nkong was waived on two occasions by the Rapids, which could probably use a player like him now.
In the day’s other ANC match, Zambia downed Sudan, 3-0.
Wednesday’s African Nations Cup slate features a pair of intriguing match-ups. Tunisia faces Senegal while South Africa meets Angola.
Ives – do you know if there is any way to watch AFCON matches in the United States? Any help would be appreciated.
I have seen a few articles that mention that Alain Nkong was waived from the Rapids, but none of them ever mention that he was there on loan, and they would have had to pay a large buy out to keep him.
Congrats to Zambia on winning today but they will have time getting any points from Cameroon or Egypt.
I’m pretty excited to see if Egypt will hold their title or if Nigeria or the Ivory Coast wins it this time. They are in such a hard group though, but it makes everything more exciting.
