Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou netted the lone goal of the match to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 victory against Nigeria in African Nations Cup action in Ghana on Monday.
For those of you wondering, Didier Drogba did play, started in fact, and finished playing 85 minutes. Drogba (shown above taking a shot as Chelsea teammate John Obi Mikel looks on) is seeing his first action since suffering a knee injury for Chelsea.
In other ANC action on Monday, Morocco thrashed Namibia, 5-1, and Mali edged Benin, 1-0, on a Freddy Kanoute penalty kick.
Count me among the soccer fans disappointed to learn that there were no American channels offering up the Ivory Coast-Nigeria match. That’s sad to say the least.
