Chelsea’s Salomon Kalou netted the lone goal of the match to give Ivory Coast a 1-0 victory against Nigeria in African Nations Cup action in Ghana on Monday.
For those of you wondering, Didier Drogba did play, started in fact, and finished playing 85 minutes. Drogba (shown above taking a shot as Chelsea teammate John Obi Mikel looks on) is seeing his first action since suffering a knee injury for Chelsea.
In other ANC action on Monday, Morocco thrashed Namibia, 5-1, and Mali edged Benin, 1-0, on a Freddy Kanoute penalty kick.
Count me among the soccer fans disappointed to learn that there were no American channels offering up the Ivory Coast-Nigeria match. That’s sad to say the least.

I’m going to follow this tournament closely. It’s a shame that the games are not being televised in the US.
What a goal by Kalou!
thanks for the update on this tourney. sucks that there is no u.s. broadcast!
Joseph Ngwenya from Dynamo signed in Austria. Check Houston Chronicle for info
Anyone know of bars in Chicago that are showing this tournament?
Gallardo to DC United and Celestine Babayaro (while we are talking Nigeria) to Galaxy. I’m excited about Gallardo, he was an amazing talent for River and can definitely pull the strings for DC just like Veron but more bite. Babayaro surprises me that he is only 29, he seems like he has been around forever. Should be a great addition to the league if he overcomes his injury issues.
Tell who was almost the goat for Nigeria- Obafemi Martins. He had so many chances to put them ahead- just kept shooting straight at the keeper. Very unusual for him. Kalou scores a great goal though.
Warren, Gallardo? Argentinian who just left PSG.
I’m trying to keep up with it this time. Thanks to this awesome site I watched Morocco vs Namibia and Nigeria vs. Ivory Coast. It was good stuff!
It’s on Eurosport but if you do some searching on live soccer/sports channel online you’ll come up with something.
go to this site livefooty.com you can stream all matches from the African Cup as well as the BPL matches that are Setanta only. You need to use microsoft internet explorer for this to work
best bet is Nevada Smiths on lower east side, 12th and 2nd maybe? You can also try Bakerstreet on 63rd and 1st,
Anyone know of a bar anywhere in New York City showing these games? I want to at least watch the final on Feb. 10.

just for the record the Cote D’Ivoire government prefer to be called by their french name in all languages. Even English.

is that supposed to be a pun?
offense!
😀
support your local library.
and get crunk.
I actually subscribed to one the Arabic channel thinking I could catch some games but no luck.
Fortunately, one of the Senegalese spots bootlegged the Ghana v. Guinea match so I got a copy on DVD. I’ll be hitting them up all the way through the finals.
Like East River, I watched part of the Nigeria – IC match on Sopcast… and all the Mali – Benin match that way. I don’t have any cable at all, so that’s also how I watched USA-Sweden. Poor image compared to the tube, but better than nothing!
Benin got lucky in their match… as the Eurosport commentators said, they deserved no fewer than two sendings off in the first half as Kanouté, Seydou Keïta and Mahamadou Diarra dissected their defense… But the cynical tactics led to the eventual takedown on Dramane Traoré and to justice through the boot of Kanouté.
The last thing you want to see when you are recovering from a knee injury is Obi Wan Mikel coming in from behind you …
I caught the second half through Comcast in the Wash DC area. MHz4 Nigerian TV Authority is part of the digital cable package.
No American channels broadcasting this tourney is not a big surprise, some have a narrow view of what will draw in the advertising dollars. I thank the heavens for Sopcast as I was able to watch yesterday’s Ghana vs Guinea and today’s Nigeria game. Both games displayed some high level soccer. And talk about colorful support! I have never seen so many people chanting, dancing, and decked out or painted in support of their team.
